Lying between Lake Annecy and the Arve Valley, this range is a world away from trunk roads, hectic resorts and industrial centres. It has two major attractions for skiers, La Clusaz and Le Grand-Bornand, which retain their traditional charm. The route des Aravis is bordered in late May by blooming violets and gentians. From the verdant uplands of Col des Aravis (1 486m) it is a 2hr-walk to Croix de Fer. The view stretches from Mont-Blanc to the glaciers of the Vanoise.
