The route traverses a wild landscape dotted by mountain communities which thanks to its isolation retains its charm. Among the more spectacular sites, don’t miss the Collet de Vaujany for its view of the west face of the Grandes-Rousses; the Combe d’Olle, site of the Grand’Maison dam; and the col de la Croix-de-Fer with its view over the Aiguilles d’Arves. From here, a 1hr 50min walk leads to the Refuge de l'Étendard, which has a fine sunset view over Mont Blanc.
