Soum means “summit”, reflecting the fact that the Forannes district is the town’s high point. Built in 1641 this house has escaped damage from fire, historically the scourge of St-Veran. The village’s oldest house, it is a fine example of Quetras domestic architecture. Wood-boarded flooring in the courtyard and entrance precedes the “shepherd’s room”, once used to accommodate seasonal workers. Elsewhere, the rooms have some extraordinary pine furniture and amply illustrate bygone peasant life.
