It was to this forbidding fortress with four towers that Amadeus VIII (antipope and Duke of Savoy) retired to live as a hermit, as recounted in its neo-Gothic interior. Visitors will also see the monastic kitchen, woodlands,the Glade of the Righteous (memorial to those who risked everything to save Jews from the Holocaust) and an arboretum. The château also houses the Ripaille Foundation, dedicated to research into ecology, geography and the development of natural resources.
