Vassieux-en-Vercors : Michelin's recommendations
An important site in the history of the Resistance, many of its famous fighters such as Eugène Chavant, Jean Prévost, Marc Riboud, Marc Ferro and Abbé Pierre were to pass through here. The inhabitants of the village and certain members of the Resistance were massacred here on 24 July 1944 by Germans who landed in gliders. Dominated by the peaks of the Lente forest and the Vercors foothills, Vassieux will be permanently associated with the resistance to the barbaric practices of mankind.
