Yvoire : Michelin's recommendations
The name derives from Aquaria (watery place). Rebuilt in the 14C on the site of an earlier fortified settlement, Yvoire retains from the period some of its ramparts, old houses, and castle (not open) with its imposing keep sprouting turrets. On the site of the kitchen garden is the Garden of the Five Senses, planted in accordance with the horticultural tenets of the Middle Ages, a verdant maze making for an unusual nature trail with the emphasis on the human senses.
