Between Le Villaret and St-Jean-d’Arvey, the route rises rapidly by the foot of Mont Peney’s rockfaces and the dent du Nivolet, the summit (1 547m) of which has long been the site of a monumental cross. The current example is 21m high and is reached along a path following the Nivolet ridge. Superb view over Lake du Bourget and a series of mountain ranges: Mont Blanc is visible in the distance to the east.
