The Musée d’Angoulême, housed in a former bishop’s palace (12C, remodelled in the 16C), has a remarkable African and Oceanic Art collection (ritual statuettes from the Congo) and a masterpiece of Celtic gold work, the Agris Helmet. The collection also includes Italian, Flemish and French paintings, as well as works from Charente. And since this is the cartoon capital, there are drawings that were created by the museum to spark the children’s interest too.
