Housed in the old faculty of literature and science building, this museum traces mankind’s history in Aquitaine from prehistory to the modern day through extensive collections spread over two floors. The section devoted to the Golden Age of Bordeaux in the 18C is particularly interesting. Elsewhere, the Tayrac hoard, the Bituriges Vivisques altar, the Garonne horde (4 000 Roman coins) and the colourful rose window from the Couvent des Grands Carmes are memorable exhibits.
