Arriving in Cambo for a cure in 1900, Edmond Rostand (1868-1918) was immediately won over by the town and decided to move here permanently. He moved into the spacious Labourdes Basque-style Villa Arnaga perched up on a promontory, which the writer turned into French-style formal gardens. On the doorstep, he wrote: "Whosoever wishes to enter and share this soft light must enter only with his heart, leaving all worldly trappings outside." The elegantly decorated villa is indeed full of light and strewn with memorabilia that belonged to the writer's family and friends.
