Guéthary : Michelin's recommendations

This tiny town on the Basque Coast has some serious assets that outweigh the appeal of its larger neighbours: its peace and quiet, and its beaches. The sea has always been its main source of wealth (right whales were hunted here until the 19C). Today, Labourdes-style houses have replaced the fishermen’s quarter, and surfers have flocked to its waters, drawn by the area’s reputation. The ‘‘jewel of the Basque Coast’’ has done a great job reinventing itself!
