At the junction of two hills, the high bell-tower of the monolithic church overlooks a rocky outcrop with cavities hollowed out where the monolithic church, the Emilion hermitage, catacombs, Trinity Chapel and a number of cellars are located. At the foot of the outcrop stands the market place which is the centre of the town. It links the districts situated on the two hills, one with a castle once the seat of civil power and the other a collegiate church, the symbol of religious power.
