Originally composed of a single nave and two superimposed choirs (so pilgrims to Saint James could be welcomed while monastic services continued), the church was altered in 1803, but the transept and old Romanesque choir with magnificent illuminated capitals remain. The lower church, half-buried and entirely vaulted with groins, has capitals decorated with plant motifs and an impressive monolithic baptismal font.
