The church was rebuilt in the 17C. It draws crowds on certain religious feast days (15 August and 8 September) and Sundays in summer. The walls of this sanctuary, softly lit by candlelight, are covered with commemorative plaques. Above the high altar stands the wooden, 14C statue of the Virgin Mary whose assistance is invoked in the event of shipwrecks and to heal the paralysed.
