The name refers to the famous “Dame à la capuche” (cowled lady), known as the Vénus de Brassempouy, a mammoth-ivory statuette from 23 000 BC. In a cave setting, the exhibition area explains the 19C-20C excavations here and the discovery of the statuette. Objets d'art and everyday items are displayed in the “alcôve de Vénus” along with casts of statuettes found at Brassempouy and other female figurines of the upper Paleolithic period.
