During the winter of 1794, 2 000 local inhabitants fled the troops of General Turreau’s “Infernal Columns” and sought refuge in the Grasla Forest, living in conditions of extreme hardship. Their settlement has been recreated here with actors bringing it to life. An interactive marked path and theatrical performance (Pierre, the Parish Captain) gives visitors a flavour of this chapter in the region’s history. The 600ha of surrounding forest has inspired an exhibition on the carpenter’s craft.
