L'Île Rousse is at the mouth of the River Balagne. This little port founded in 1758 by Pascal Paoli, is now a modern city on a checkerboard plan, famous for the gentleness of its climate and its attractive beach of fine sand. The pleasant holiday resort is busy from the spring onwards and is enlivened by many small businesses and the metallic clicking of the winning shots of the Boules players underneath the plane trees in the Paoli square.
