Lectoure
: Michelin's recommendations
Lectoure, an ancient oppidum of the Lectorates, capital of the Armagnacs and later of Lomagne, occupies a remarkable site overlooking the Gers Valley and Lomagne hills (magnificent view from the Bastion walk). This little town, perched on a limestone promontory, is full of fine stone houses, terraces, and gardens with fountains and palm trees along its little streets. Woad, the blue dye that created the wealth and fame of the pays de Cocagne (land of plenty), is once again being cultivated here. Don’t miss the lapidary museum containing a unique collection of 20 taurobolic altars.
