The old harbour was created by order of Colbert and designed by Pierre-Paul Riquet. At present, its passenger and merchant ferry days are long gone; the harbour is now the exclusive domain of local fishermen and expensive yachts. The latter have taken over the Môle Saint-Louis. Visitors should make a point of going to the electronic auction of fish which takes place around 3.30pm.
