Villefranche-de-Rouergue : Michelin's recommendations

Lying on the border of the Rouergue and Quercy districts, the old bastide town of Villefranche was built in 1252 by Alphonse de Poitiers, Count of Toulouse. It is a picturesque spot, sited among verdant hills at the confluence of the River Aveyron and the River Alzou. On its main square is the 13C-15C Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame. Its chequer town plan and stone houses reflect its rich medieval past as a stop on the Compostela pilgrim trail.
