Alençon Travel guide
Alençon : Michelin's recommendations
It’s worth making a detour to visit Alençon in order to understand why this small town enjoys such renown. Once the seat of a duchy (the second Duke of Alençon, Jean de Valois, nicknamed the “handsome duke”, was a comrade-in-arms of Joan of Arc), the town was renowned for the refined delicacy of its lace, and was the site of a royal workshop in the reign of Louis XIV. The town preserves its historical treasures, as visitors will see for themselves.
