Domfront's historic centre is surrounded by fortifications which include 13 towers out of an initial total of 24 (the best preserved are on the South side).The area comprises fine half-timbered houses (number 40 rue Docteur-Barrabé) and carefully restored 16C private mansions. Not to be missed: the neo-Byzantine church of St Julien (1924), featuring an unusual interior plan, and the town hall decorated with drawings and oil paintings by local artist Charles Léandre. From the North terre-plein of the ramparts, there is a pleasant view of the deep Varenne Valley.
