Renovated in 1992, this museum charts European art from the 15C to the early 20C. Particular strongpoints include 17C-19C French painting (Poussin, Jacques Stella, Deshays, Fragonard, Ingres, Géricault) Impressionism (Café interior by Caillebotte, Doorway of Rouen Cathedral by Monet and Tuileries gardens in snow by Pissarro); and Cubism (Raymond Duchamp-Villon, Jacques Villon and Marcel Duchamp, all Norman-born). 17C Italy is represented with Caravaggio’s magnificentFlagellation.

Pros
A very good collection of art in a museum of a size that doesn't overwhelm the senses. Worth a visit to see its broad collection and a pleasure for its impressionist collection, a lot easier to view than the D'Orsay.
