This town has a magnificent monument, the Abbey Church of St George which became the parish sanctuary of the village of St Martin during the Revolution. The building, with austere architectural lines and harmonious proportions, was built with a classical Benedictine layout. Digs have revealed the presence of religious activities on the site for over 2 000 years. The village is set in the concave part of a bend in the Seine (right bank) between the river's alluvial zone and Roumare forest.
