Villequier
: Michelin's recommendations
In an admirable site on the banks of the Seine, Villequier is located at the foot of a steep, tree-clad slope topped by a castle. Victor Hugo's daughter, Léopoldine, and her husband, Charles Vacquerie, drowned in the Seine here six months after their wedding in 1843, hence the Contemplations poems made the name of Villequier part of literary history. The couple's tomb, the statue of Victor Hugo near the site of the accident and the Victor Hugo museum commemorate the episode.
