An elegant 16C gatehouse flanked by four circular towers leads into Carrouges Castle. The château was largely built during the reigns of Henri IV and Louis XIII. Surrounded by a moat, the buildings are set around an inner courtyard and the apartments reveal a mixture of Renaissance and Classical interior decoration, with some fine furniture. The visit ends with the monumental staircase with brickwork vaulting and rounded headed arches.
