Built in the early 13th C over the Gallo-Roman wall, the ramparts form a 325 x 410 metre rectangle with four gates flanked by two towers. The circuit that can be reached from each gate gives fine views over the town and bustling port. Four pedestrian gates lead into the old town. In the western corner, Tour Gayotte was the scene of one of the first aeronautical dramas.
