Maubeuge : Michelin's recommendations
In the heart of the major industrial basin running from Aulnoye to Jeumont, Maubeuge developed around a convent founded in the 7C. Despite its fortifications, the birthplace of the painter Mabuse (1478-1533) suffered countless attacks from foreign invaders before being 90% destroyed by bombs in 1940.
The modern, white town of today designed to plans by the architect, André Lurçat, has suffered a direct hit from the iron and steel crisis.
