Montreuil : Michelin's recommendations
A peaceful town reminiscent of a bygone age, Montreuil stands on a plateau overlooking the Canche valley. Its old streets are lined with 17C and 18C houses untouched by the modern world. The citadel, rebuilt by Vauban, and the shaded ramparts (16C-17C) offer views of the valley. The town inspired Victor Hugo, who in 1837 chose it as the setting for one of the episodes of Les Misérables. Don’t miss Saint-Saulve church, an old Benedictine abbey built in the 11C and altered in the 13C and 16C.
