A stone's throw away from Paris, and linked to all of France via its TGV station in Massy, near hi-tech areas like Orsay and Courtaboeuf, Palaiseau has chosen to join the scientific elite. It has two prestigious schools - Polytechnique and ENSTA, and hosts the Festival International du Film Scientifique. Palaiseau has several historical souvenirs, however - it is the homeland of the young drummer Joseph Bara (1779-1793) and writer George Sand lived here for a little while.
