Château de Malmaison
: Michelin's recommendations
Built around 1622, this was Napoleon's favourite castle under the Consulate. It was made up of a central building flanked by two wings (late 18C). Josephine bought it in 1799 and added a conservatory in the shape of a military tent, which she had designed by Percier and Fontaine. A museum was opened here in 1906 and today, the rooms are furnished with beautiful pieces from Malmaison, St-Cloud and the Tuileries. In the grounds, now only 6ha, note the Marengo cedar, planted after the victory in the Battle of Marengo in 1800, as well as other rare species, and the rose garden.
