This town is at one and the same time a residential city and the target for many tourists attracted by its chateau, the terrace and the forest. It was the old royal residence since Louis VI the Fat established his chateau-fortress there. It witnessed the birth of Henri II, Charles IX and Louis XIV, the Sun King himself. He was very attached to Saint-Germain and had it improved by Hardouin-Mansart and by Le Nôtre before establishing himself at Versailles with his entire court.
