On the edge of the forest, Vincennes is the administrative centre of Val-du-Marne and has one of the most remarkable collections of medieval buildings in Europe. Behind an imposing rectangle of walls, the Château de Vincennes is famed for its keep (restored). A visit to the town (allow a whole day) is not complete without a walk in its forest to the east and seeing the 30ha Paris Floral Park which has hundreds of plant species.
