Shops: 10am-7pm, daily except Sunday and Monday.

Fresh food shops: often open on Sunday mornings and closed on Mondays.

Neighbourhood grocery stores: many remain open until very late.

Supermarkets: 9am-7pm, daily except Sunday (many of the larger high-street names, such as Monoprix, stay open until 10pm).

Department stores: 10am-7pm, late night opening one day a week (until 9.30-10pm).

Paris is a relatively expensive city, particularly in terms of accommodation and restaurants. For a rough guide of average prices:

Coffee: €1.20 at the bar, €2.30 seated or on the terrace.

Beer: between €2.90 and €4.30 seated.

Glass of wine: between €3-4 seated.

Fruit juice, soft drink: €3.50 seated.

Baguette of bread: €1.

Croissant: €1.15.

Cinema: €9-10.

Museum: €5-10.
