Montmartre: classic sites and hidden treasures (video)

Montmartre: classic sites and hidden treasures (video)

2010-06-07

Montmartre, the village where Renoir, Suzanne Valadon, Utrillo and Picasso all lived and painted, is the Paris of postcards. Join us for a stroll which includes the ‘classic must-see’ sites, but also reveals a hidden side of the neighbourhood which is quite endearing.

Montmartre calls to mind the hungry artists of bygone days, poverty-stricken and superb, who were busy creating art and literature while bourgeois gentlemen came to frolic with good-time girls in the quarter’s seedy bars and music cafés under the watchful eye of Toulouse-Lautrec.

While its Bohemian lifestyle is largely a thing of the past, Montmartre has succeeded in preserving its village atmosphere. And of course, the view of the capital as seen from the terrace of the Sacré Coeur basilica is as magnificent as ever.
