The Collège des Quatre-Nations, founded by Mazarin and built according to plans by Le Vau, became the headquarters of the Institut de France in 1805. The Institut comprises five academies, including the Académie Française, whose forty members gather beneath the celebrated cupola of the old chapel. Two wings in the shape of a quarter-circle link the chapel to the square pavilions, creating an overall harmonious balance. The charming Mazarine library boasts an exceptional collection of books.
