In the Middle Ages, timber and firewood were unloaded at the Port aux Bûches situated between the Petit-Pont and the Pont au Double. In the 17C, an annexe was added to the Hôtel-Dieu, and the two buildings were linked via the Pont au Double (the current bridge dates from 1885).
