This narrow shopping street recalls the literary renown of the village of Auteuil. It was at n° 43, the Hôtel Antier, that the Demoiselles de Verrières, protégés of Marshal de Saxe, lived in the 18C, one of whom was George Sand’s grandmother. Opposite, at n° 40, the Auberge du Mouton Blanc, included Molière, Racine and La Fontaine among its regulars. At n° 59, theHôtel de Madame Helvétius, better known as “Notre-Dame d’Auteuil”, was frequented by the likes of Turgot, Condorcet and Malesherbes.
