This street, laid out above a warren of tunnels belonging to the Abbaye de Saint-Germain, is lined by a succession of beautiful mansions, including the Hôtel Biron, home to the Musée Rodin, the Hôtel de Broglie (n° 73), Hôtel de Villeroy (n° 78) and Hôtel de Castries (n° 72). The most famous is without doubt the Hôtel Matignon, built in 1722 and the former property of Talleyrand, the Austro-Hungarian ambassador. Since 1935, it has been the official residence of the French Prime Minister.
