This large theatre stands beneath the terrace of the eponymous palace. Firmin Gémier established the Théâtre National Populaire here in 1920, which Jean Vilar directed from 1951-63. From 1988 to 2000, Jérôme Savary was the theatre’s artistic director, when it became officially known as the Théâtre National de Chaillot.
