German abstract art pioneer Otto Freundlich (1878-1943) arrived in Paris in 1908. His work featured greatly in the exhibition of «degenerate art» held by the Nazis in Munich in 1937. During the occupation, he hid in Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet, but was arrested and died during deportation. Apart from his paintings, this modern art museum holds work by Arp, Gleizes and Matisse.
