This old cotton mill (1862), an example of 19C industrial architecture, was renovated by the architect Alain Sarfati to house France’s “working world” archives. From the outside, this “castle of industry” has the appearance of both a liner and a medieval fortress, with its crenellations, watchtower and metal drawbridge above the entrance.
