Walking around the ramparts gives visitors a useful overview of the town with fine views of the marina and salt marshes. Started in 1272, the walls of Aigues-Mortes are a good example of military architecture and have survived down the centuries remarkably well. Laid out on a quadrilateral plan, they are punctuated by towers and gateways.
