Town houses were built in Aix in the 17 and 18C, paid for by members of the legal profession who profited from Parliament's presence in the town. The town's appearance today is mainly shaped by these houses. The Panisse-Passis town house with its superb door sculpted with fantastic figures and its fine wrought iron balcony work is one of the best examples reflecting this euphoric period.
