Luberon : Michelin's recommendations
Declared a Regional Nature Reserve in 1977, the area is planted with oak forests and garigue stretching between the Alps and the Mediterranean. To the west the Petit Luberon forms a plateau carved by gorges where the altitude rarely exceeds 700m, whereas to the east the Grand Luberon rises up to 1 125m ( Mourre Nègre). Among the sights to look out for are the Colorado de Rustrel, abbey of Sénanque, and picturesque villages such as Gordes and Roussillon, without forgetting the curious dry-stone huts or bories, all steeped in a magical light.
