Luberon
: Michelin's recommendations
Declared a Regional Nature Reserve in 1977, the area is planted with oak forests and garigue stretching between the Alps and the Mediterranean. To the west the Petit Luberon forms a plateau carved by gorges where the altitude rarely exceeds 700m, whereas to the east the Grand Luberon rises up to 1 125m (Mourre Nègre). Among the sights to look out for are the Colorado de Rustrel, abbey of Sénanque, and picturesque villages such as Gordes and Roussillon, without forgetting the curious dry-stone huts or bories, all steeped in a magical light.
