Presided over by the Vieille Charité, a maze of stairways and steep streets lined with tall brightly coloured houses: the area’s Mediterranean atmosphere is reminiscent of Naples’ old town, with influences from the Caribbean, Vietnam and the Comoros lending it a cosmopolitan feel. You can get here via the Montée des Accoules but do wander around the streets of this working-class area (rue du Panier, rue de la Fontaine-de-Caylus, rue de la Porte-Baussenque) or the charming Place des Moulins.
