This square in the town centre is lined with grand mansions: Hôtel de Sade (15C) – now the Archaeological Museum – and Hôtel Mistral de Mondragon, a huge 16C residence with a lovely courtyard, with a round staircase turret and loggias, which houses the Musée des Alpilles. Further along, stands the Hôtel d'Almeran-Maillane, where Charles Gounod gave the first recital of Mireille.
