Pont du Gard Highly Recommended Highly Recommended Highly Recommended : Michelin's recommendations

With its ancient patinated stonework, delicate structure and backdrop of green hills and waters of the Gardon, this grandiose feat of engineering built in the 1C continues to amaze. It was part of a 50km-long aqueduct built to bring spring water from a catchment area near Uzès to Nîmes, supplying the Roman city with some 20 000km3 of water daily. Built from colossal 6t-8t blocks of masonry raised up to over 40m in height, the bridge consists of three levels of recessed arches.
