La Castagniccia is bordered by the narrow Golo Valley to the north, the central valley of Corte to the west, Costa Verde to the east, Bozio to the south, and forms a balcony on the eastern plain. Monte San Petrone (1 767m altitude), often wreathed in a light mist, is a resounding illustration of the region's mountainous character… a region carpeted with deep chestnut groves (as its name suggests) and littered with hamlets resembling fortresses. Don't miss either the magnificent Couvent d'Alesani or the frescoes in the San Quilico de Cambia Chapel.
